"With taste, elegance, and appetites that match the male original, Tillman Gilson introduces 'Jane Bond' to the intelligence and literary world with panache and brazen sensuality -- a spoof on a spoof that works. Bravo."

-Robert C. McFarlane, National Security Advisor to President Ronald Reagan

ASSAULT WEAPON

An assault weapon is a weapon used in military operations.  Although the term assault weapon has been used for political purposes to mean weapons that should be outlawed, or weapons that are automatic or semi-automatic. An Assault weapon in its purest form is merely a weapon used for an assault. Historically an assault weapon has included flamethrowers, torpedoes, as well as assault rifles and shotguns which can be fully automatic.

Semi automatic rifles are not classified as an assault weapon. This can be confusing to non-specialists – including many state and national legislators who use the term assault weapon interchangeably with any weapon.

An Assault weapon is fully automatic and an assault rifle has to have the ability to provide a large amount of fire power whether through a fully automatic mode or what is called a burst fire mode.

In The Very Secret Weapon Alex Garfield does not use an assault weapon.  Her weapons are her hands, a Sig Sauer pistol and two different sniper rifles.  None of these are classified as an assault weapon which one finds in the military.  She is, however, qualified in a more traditional assault weapon, the machine gun.
